Have you heard of Facebook or Twitter? I’m assuming you’ve got some vague idea of what those two sites are, since you have the savvy to be reading this blog right now. They are “social networking” sites where you can share photos, status updates, links, and a whole lot more.

So, why would we need/want yet another social networking site? Well, I don’t, unless it’s as cool as Pinterest!

Pinterest is a site based entirely on pictures. It’s wonderful for inspiration in all areas, not just sewing. I’ve been using it a lot, especially since I’ve gotten the itch to redecorate my house.

You can create “boards” to organize your ideas- like “New House”, “Wedding”, “Dream Sewing Room”. And you can upload pictures or add other user’s pictures to your boards.

You need an “invite” to join. You can request one at pinterest.com or send your e-mail address to us, and I’ll invite you! Then you set up an account and you can “follow” people’s pins- like us!

You’ll see all the neat stuff that we’re sewing or lusting after on our pin boards.  We’ll pin videos, tutorials, pictures of what we’re doing in our next class!  Check us out on Pinterest- you won’t be sorry!

Inside Zede’s Sewing Studio is a new sewing show hosted by Zede and Mallory Donohue. We film in front of a live audience and take questions from Facebook, Twitter, and the people sitting in front of us!

Check out our first episode! This month, we explained how to embroider on a ready-made tote bag and how to do a lettuce-edge scarf on your serger.

Zede and I had an awesome time, and so did our audience!!!

I am so excited!  We are dedicating every Tuesday night after club to some form of quilting lesson!  This coming Tuesday will kick off our Fiber Fun series.  In Fiber Fun we will explore some contemporary and mixed media techinques to enhance and embellish your quilts.  We will start out by using Karen Linduska’s book, Your Machine’s Decorative Stitches, and our first project will be Marshland #1

Marshland #1

It will be fun to learn new ways to use those built-in stitches in our machines to create botanical images.  The best part is that you don’t have to be a quilter to enjoy this class.  In fact, you can be newbie to your machine, and still experience success with Karen’s methods!  It is a super way to become familiar with your machine’s different functions and opportunities for creativity!

Fiber Fun will continue every other month, always on the Tuesday after club!

I can’t wait to share with you what I have learned,  Linda B.

I just had to share with you photos from our Nature Inspired Quilting Motifs class.   This class was designed to build on the skills that they learned in the Meandering Methods machine quilting class.

I think they did a fabulous job, and of course I am as proud as a peacock about the results!

What is it you want to learn in 2012?

Waiting to hear from you, Linda B.

We love Sulky Blendables, and we know our customers do too! If you haven’t heard of Blendables, I’ll explain the reasons why they are an indispensable quilting and decorative thread.

1) They are manufactured from high quality cotton. This means they run through your machine and spread out on your projects like butter

2) Sulky Blendables are variegated in a completely random dying process, so you don’t get a stripe-y or uniform look in your work.

3) The colors are awesome! From black and white blends call “Piano Keys” to seasonal and patriotic blends, the possibilities are endless with these threads.

4) Sulky has just introduced 42 new colors of Blendables!!!

We are soon to be proud carriers of all color of Sulky Blendable 30 wt thread and Sulky Blendable 12 wt. thread. To celebrate, we’re hosting Sulky national educator, Pat Welch on Saturday November 5th. She’s going to do two seminars in which she demonstrates and explains just how versatile the Sulky Blendables can be. There are two time slots available- one is 10-12:30 and the next is 2-4:30 (pick one time).

This is two and a half straight hours of sewing inspiration! Plus, it’s a great value. You pay $20 to come to the seminar and receive 3 spools of Sulky Blendable threads for free! So, you’ll get to immediately go home and try out the techniques you’ve seen.

I got the honor of interviewing Jason Prater, President Sulky of America at Baby Lock Tech this year and he showed us a little sampling of what we’ll get to see in November.

Baby Lock is an excellent company to work for! We’ve got proof!

Just about everyone I asked gave us an enthusiastic “Baby Lock! For the love!” when I asked. This is Baby Lock’s mantra, shortened from “Baby Lock, for the love of sewing.”

It’s fun to say and it was fun to film! Enjoy!

First of all, I HAVE GOT to have one of these huge needles! Aren’t they fun?

They’re also educational. We’re big on education.

Using the right needle can make or break a project- so expect more videos on needles, because I’M GETTING ONE!

Our first class at BLT this morning is Technical Troubleshooting. This class is supposed to help sales associates identify simple technical problems and educate the customer on how to avoid these problems. This helps keep your machine out of the shop and in your sewing room- so that you can have fun sewing!

Doug Thompson

(Doug Thompson, demonstrating stitch formation with a HUGE needle)

Doug Thompson, head of the Baby Lock Technical Department and our teacher in this class, says that when a machine comes back within 6 months of purchase, it is most likely due to an operator error. He asked the class if we, as dealers, send machines home before giving instruction to the customer. Our answer: Not at Zede’s!!!

You get a “sit down delivery” with the purchase of a new sewing machine, so that you can go home and use your machine correctly, which means you will be successful!

It’s nice when we are told when we’re doing something right!

I’m getting lots of tips and tricks to share for our customers when they call up with a problem or when my blog/twitter followers ask me questions about why their machines aren’t working.

Do you have a sewing question? Ask here!

Zede, Katie Jo, Linda Bratten, and myself (Mallory) are getting geared up to go to Baby Lock Tech this weekend!

Baby Lock Tech is Baby Lock‘s annual dealer conference where they introduce and educate us on new products. We LOVE this event!

First of all, it’s in St. Louis, so it’s easy for us to get to. Second, we have a fantabulous time every year! We get to take classes from experts in the sewing business, including Nancy Zieman, Michelle Griffith and Karen Linduska. We get ideas for projects and classes that we pass on to our customers and students at the store and online.  We’ll also learn about the new machines that Baby Lock is introducing.

Here’s a pic from last year’s BLT- you can see why we love to go back!

46426_465238204438_718359438_6449090_4519160_n

Get ready to be overloaded with pics, posts and tweets! And don’t get too jealous, we’ll bring back some of the magic at next month’s club!

Let us know if you want us to research anything for you while we’re at Baby Lock headquarters or if you would like an interview with anyone in particular!
