Classes at Zede’s: You Ask, We Listen!

Every so often, we have to cancel a class due to low enrollment. Maybe it didn’t make it up on the website in time or we scheduled something on the day of some really important MU football game…

Well, it can be disappointing for students and teachers, but we offer a way to make up for it!

If you and two of your friends find a time when you’re available, the studio is free and the class teacher is available, you can schedule a class!  Our minimum enrollment is 3 people- so a lot of times it doesn’t take much to muster up a group.

This class session will also be added to the website, in case anyone else wants to sign up to come.

So…why am I highlighting this practice in a blog post?  Because we recently had to cancel a section of “Quilting Quickies”, and some astute students have found an alternate time!

Linda B.’s Stained Glass Applique class has been rescheduled for Friday, November 2nd from 10am-1pm.  Sign up now, if you are interested!

Here’s what you’ll be making:  A stained glass applique pumpkin!  You’ll achieve the stained glass effect by using pre-folded, fusible quick bias which we will have available in the store for class.

Once again, sign up here- and make sure to contact us if you’d like to see anymore classes rescheduled!

Proud as a Peacock!

I just had to share with you photos from our Nature Inspired Quilting Motifs class.   This class was designed to build on the skills that they learned in the Meandering Methods machine quilting class.

I think they did a fabulous job, and of course I am as proud as a peacock about the results!

What is it you want to learn in 2012?

Waiting to hear from you, Linda B.

Rocci’s Sewing School Gears Up For Fall Class

I am so excited about the fall weather.  It is so cozy inside and cool outside.  This is when we all start thinking about our fall and winter sewing projects.  I am always deciding to sew seasonal items at that particular time of year.  I really should organize my projects and sew fall projects in the summer, winter projects in the fall, srping projects in the winter, and summer projects in the spring.  Well, hmmm maybe eventually I will get that organized with my projects.

As for my students and their projects; monthly lessons start up again at Zede’s Sewing Studio  September  18th & 25th.  We will be meeting for classes 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm.   There is plenty of room for 4-8 students as long as you get your child registered through Zede’s Sewing Studio to reserve his or her spot.  Remember we meet twice a month for 2-hour sessions.  The student advances through whatever sewing level they have aspired to and moves up into their next level of achievement.

Holiday Camp will be hosted in November before Thanksgiving.  I have great plans for our Holiday Camp and hope to see eager young students participate in this exciting camp.

In November we will be hosting another Rocci’s Sewing School Fashion Show.  So tell your children to be sure to have all their projects in good shape to show off at the fashion show.

Don’t Miss Out!

Can you believe that our next Lock-In is this Friday, March 26, 2010?  Time does fly when you are having fun! In fact, to help me get ready I enlisted the help of my young friend, Brooke, to test sew our next Lock-In project.

Brooke describes herself as being an inexperienced sewer, but has gained a lot of confidence after completing the Smart Bag with me.  Those of you who attended club saw what a wonderful job she did!  Her bag is on display at the studio.  She is letting us keep her bag until the Lock-in is over to inspire all who attend to use different embellishment methods to the cover. I think she did a fabulous job, and it is hard to believe that she is inexperienced when you see her work.

The Lock -In Project, the Julie Smart Bag, is a basic vinyl bag, that you can create mulitple, reversible covers for.  This is a great bag for those who work in secure locations that allow only see through bags in, or for those of us who carry things in our bags that tend to spill.  With the reverisble cover option, you can match your bag to any occasion.

In this Lock-In we will help you:

  • learn some basic bag making techniques
  • give hints and suggestions for working with vinyl
  • examine different embellishment opportunities for the cover
  • and give you directions for a bonus inside pocket!

Of course, since this is a Lock-in there will be a pot luck that you can bring a guest to before we get started.  If you have never been to a Lock-In before come ready to learn and have a great time!  Who knows, you may end up on facebook or YouTube!

You will need to sign up quicklycontact the shop to secure your place and get your supply list!

See you on Friday!

Linda B.

Just a Reminder. . .

This Saturday, will be our second session of Serge Ahead!  Just ask anyone who attended the first session how beneficial it was! I have noticed that several are already putting their cord covers to good use.  In fact, we even have our technicians questioning about them!

The next project will be the rice bag.  Who couldn’t use one of these to ease our muscles after a long day of creating at our sewing machines?  Be sure to sign up quickly, space is running out, and we want to make sure there is a kit available for you.  Also remember, you will need the book, Ready, Set, Serge by Georgie Melot.

Why not make it a goal this year to learn more about your serger, and have a great time doing it.

See you then, Linda B.

Delightful Student

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA My newest student is all smiles and very focused on her task.  She left her first class excited and ready to finish her drawstring bag.  The greatest gift she brought to me is being a “lefty”!  I am left-handed as well and must always reverse my instructions for my right-handed students.  So when I told my new student I was excited that she was left-handed she beamed!

I was so impressed with her.  She was very focused and determined.  Each step of her adventure she expressed eagerness and worked diligently to complete.  She is going to go far and become a wonderful future seamstress.

Pass the word around that children can learn to sew at Zede’s Sewing Studio.  Just go to our web site and click on the classes link and check out the schedule for all the classes available Just For Kids.

Trapunto

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Wow!

That is the only word I can think of to express my enthusiasm with the Trapunto technique Linda B. taught the other night.

If you haven’t learned the easy technique of  Trapunto from Linda B. you are missing an amazing discovery.  Check out Zede’s Sewing Studio class schedule and sign up for this class.  It is amazing!

This smooth free-flowing creative adventure just unfolds as the design takes on its unique style.  This techniques makes quick work of a very detailed traditional method.

I know for a fact that I will be making many more Trapunto designs and sharing them with family and friends.   Thank you so much Linda for helping us step out of our comfort zones and explore our creativity.

What a Great Start to 2010!

I can’t believe that January is already over!  But it is amazing what we accomplished in January.  We got back in the swing of things after the holidays with a super club.  It was full of great prizes, fun games, a ton of opportunities to sharpen your sewing skills, and of course an outstanding show and tell!  But we were just getting started!

We rolled right into our first lock-in of the year.  Several took the opportunity to create a Simply Chic Carry-All to help organize our sewing equipment or to use when traveling.  It was exciting to see the different fabrics and embellishments that were chosen.  I can’t wait to see these at the next club.

Then we kicked off our new group, Serge Ahead!  Many of you showed up to learn more about your sergers.  We started out by making cord covers to help organize our sewing areas.  As was presented in club, we will work our way through the projects in Georgie Melot’s Book, Ready, Set, Serge. But don’t feel bad if you couldn’t make the first session,  in March we will complete a new project.  So check the classes section to sign up.

Several got wrapped up in making fabric wrapped bowls with Pat F.  I was fortunate to see some of the completed projects at the shop.  Some were even motivated to create other items!

Then we were excited to have a great group for the Meandering Method of Quilting class.  I was excited to see how quickly the students were replicating fun machine quilting patterns on their class samples.  I can’t wait to see how they use this skill on their projects in the future!

In the mean time, we kept busy with a wide variety of guide classes.  Many got to know their new Bernina Artista Software under the guidance of Joanne, and their BabyLock machines better with the help of Jane and Linda T.

Of course Rocci kept our next generation of students busy, and those of you that participated in Embellisher Enthusiasts know what fun Pat and Jane had planned for you.

It seems like there is always something happening at Zede’s Sewing Studio.  If you haven’t checked us out lately, please feel welcome to come in and see what is happening.  Or better yet, why not join us for club this week, or sign up for the Jelly Rolls into Coins class and find out what you have been missing!

Always on the look out for sewing fun, Linda B.

Talking Threads

For the past six weeks I have been following a British program called Talking Threads via the internet.  They feature a different fiber artist each week with a personal  interview followed by a sample class. The  artists so far have been:

  • Jill Kennedy- a fabric or silk painter whose class was so interesting,  I would love to try her techniques.  She gave enough detail in her class to get anyone started.
  • Gilda Baron-an artist who combined fabric dyeing and machine thread painting.  Her project was fantastic and I could see such possibilities using her methods.
  • Di Wells-a patch worker or quilter.  I am not a quilter, by any means, but I was intrigued enough that I tried her procedure for using paper as your fabric and made a sample that looks great as a greeting card.
  • Kim Thittchai-an experimental or hot textile creator.  She made the most interesting surfaces by heating different fabrics and materials.  This was what I would call outside the box, very fascinating.
  • Fay Maxwell-a slasher and crewel embroiderer.   She took chenille techniques to a higher level.  I have already started digging through my fabric containers to try this process.  I really enjoyed this segment.
  • Linda Miller- a free style machine embroiderer.  Her pictorials were Grandma Moses-like thread paintings.  If you can drop the feed dogs in your machine,  give this a try.

This program is worth taking the time to watch.  I see it as a springboard to new areas of interest and creativity.   Hope you tune into Talking Threads an expand your horizons too.  Watch and let me know what you think.

Rocci’s Sewing School Summer Fun Sewing Camp – Flip & Flop Camp

FLIP & FLOP CAMP Sewing Camps are a fabulous activity for kids during the summer months. Most parents welcome this activity for their children. The sewing camps are geared toward education and fun! The child must be willing to sew at a faster pace and be up for the challenge.

The camps welcome any student that has had some beginning sewing experience. The type of experiences would Include: monthly sewing classes, the once-a-month KIDS CLUBHOUSE and previous camp experiences. The foundation for successful sewing is found in Rocci’s Sewing School. Kids can and will sew when given the opportunity. Our goal during the Camp is to be sure the student has a positive and fulfilling experience and leave with a finished project.

My greatest reward from the students once they have finished their projects…their great big smiles and hugs!
